For the NextGen Club Dance at Allegro Ballroom in Richmond on the 1st Saturday of each month in 2025
7pm – West Coast Swing Lesson* with an excellent local pro
*This is an all levels class – familiarity with west coast swing fundamentals is expected.
8pm-midnight – Social dance with an awesome DJ
9:15pm – Luck of the Draw sign ups close. This is a progressive contest, with the top 5 couples securing a spot in finals to compete for Boogie by the Bay passes. Finals will be held in October.

What is West Coast Swing?
West Coast Swing is a fun, partnered style of social dance! Although it originated from Lindy Hop during the 1940’s in the USA, it can be danced to almost any genre of music and has evolved to become one of the most versatile, expressive and improvisational social dance styles around the world!
West Coast Swing has become a modern style of partner dancing that is ever-evolving and has no limits when it comes to progression, and you can have fun no matter what level you are – even if you have 2 left feet! This style is hard to define but so easy to love.
Boogie by the Bay
Boogie by the Bay is our annual West Coast Swing convention held in early October, sponsored by The Next Generation Swing Dance Club, and has been running since 1993!
You don’t want to miss
- social dancing every night from Thursday through Sunday
- an extra-large dance floor in the main ballroom
- non-gendered WSDC Jack & Jill competitions with spotlight or mini-spotlight finals
- exceptional Rising Star, Showcase and Classic routine competitions celebrated with a red-carpet event on Saturday evening.
